An arsonist poured flammable liquid on the first floor before setting the fire that destroyed the Coffee & shop at 718 Elmwood Ave. before dawn Thursday, Buffalo fire investigators have confirmed.

The coffee shop, which had been the target of recent arson threats, burned down in a two-alarm fire that also sent the shop's owner and third-floor resident to Erie County Medical Center. After firefighters led him down a ladder from the first-floor roof, Lon Coldiron was treated and released from ECMC.

City crews demolished the remaining shell Thursday. The building also housed a barbershop on the first floor.

Fire officials estimated the damage at $300,000.
