The Tonawanda Lightning Pee Wee Minor AA hockey team team won the "Best of the Best" Hockey Challenge in Georgetown, Ont.

The Lightning defeated the Mississauga Jets in the championship game, and goaltender Corey Sorrento was named tournament MVP.

Matt Bessing of Cheektowaga scored the winning goal as the Buffalo Saints Midget Majors defeated the Dallas (Texas) Junior Stars to win the Saints' tournament at the Amherst Pepsi Center.

BASEBALL: The Buffalo School of Baseball will begin nine-week indoor hitting and pitching leagues next month. Age groups are 8-11, 12-14 and unlimited for hitting, 8-11 for pitching. To register call Rick Lancellotti at 681-9410.

BASKETBALL: Southline Athletic Association will hold basketball registration from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Julia Boyer Reinstein Library, 2580 Loss Road, Cheektowaga. Grades 2-8 are eligible, and games are played Sundays at Center Court Sports. Call Kirk Zinermon at 892-1889.

BASKETBALL OFFICIALS: IAABO Board 53 will hold the first of two interpretation meetings Sunday at 11 a.m. at Daemen College. Call Benji Bluman or Bob Miske.

CHEERLEADING: Southline Athletic Association Extreme Team Cheerleading will hold registration from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Julia Boyer Reinstein Library, 2580 Loss Road, Cheektowaga. Cheerleading is open to grades 2-8, plus a mascot division for kindergarten and first grade. Call Kirk Zinermon at 892-1889.

HOCKEY: Holiday Twin Rinks in Cheektowaga will offer free pick-up hockey skating sessions for age 45-older. Sessions will be held 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 1, 8, 15. Full equipment is required. Call 685-3660.

SOCCER: The Western New York Exceptional High School Senior Soccer Exhibition tryouts will be held Nov. 3 and 6 in the North Amherst Recreation Center, off Millersport Road in Amherst. For both sessions, girls should report at 5:15 p.m. and their session will end at 7:30 p.m. The boys' sessions will run 7:15-9:30 p.m. Flats or molded shoes are allowed and a $10 fee is required. Tryouts are open to high school seniors who made their league's first or second all-star teams, or made honorable mention, and who are interested in playing in college.
