The Akron Zoning Board of Appeals has approved a request for a variance to allow construction of an 8-foot security fence on Akron Airport property.
Board members met recently with Mary Kay Genthner of Passero Associates and David Grey, the airport project manager, to discuss the application of Christian Airmen, owner of the airport.
Genthner said the fence is designed to keep wildlife off the runway,
The Federal Aviation Administration, Grey said, has recommended an 8-foot fence and is strongly urging the airport to be fenced in.
The board also approved a request by Summer Lotz for a variance of the height restriction requirements to allow construction of a garage at 25 Chestnut St.
