Almon "Papa" Sikes Jr., a former Delphi Harrison employee, died Monday in Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness. He was 55.
Born in Fort Pierce, Fla., Mr. Sikes came to Buffalo in the late 1950s and graduated from Burgard Vocational High School in 1968. He moved to Niagara Falls in 1986 before returning to Buffalo in 2000.
For 30 years beginning in 1972, Mr. Sikes worked as a forklift driver at the operation now known as Delphi Thermal & Interior in Lockport. He retired in 2002.
He was a member of Pioneer Seventh-day Adventist Church. He enjoyed doing yard work, traveling and spending time with his family.
Mr. Sikes is survived by his wife, the former Demetria L. Green; two daughters, Shevonne M. and Amber D., both of Amherst; four sons, Omar Bryant of Detroit, Robert of Dallas, Darius of Cleveland and Anthony Devonshire of Buffalo; three sisters, Lavon Melson and Lisa, both of Philadelphia, and Linda of Dallas; eight brothers, Henry, Percy, Tommy and Edward, all of Buffalo, Raymond, Kenneth and Tyrone, all of Dallas, and Anthony of Philadelphia; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Emmanuel Temple Seventh-day Adventist Church, 300 Adams St. Burial will be in St. Matthews Cemetery, West Seneca.
