Extended honeymoon ...
Britney Spears is taking some time away from her career to enjoy her recent marriage to dancer Kevin Federline, and she can't wait to start a family, according to her Web site.
"My prerogative right now is to just chill and let all of the other overexposed blonds on the cover of Us Weekly be your entertainment. Good luck girls!" the Web site says.
"It's amazing what advisers will push you to do, even if it means taking a naive, young, blond girl and putting her on the cover of every magazine," the singer says in her posting.
Spears says she's been "going and going and going" since she was 15 years old, but after she hurt her knee this summer (during a video shoot), she knew she'd have to take some time off.
She adds: "Being married is GREAT and I can't wait to start my family!"
Her greatest hits album, "My Prerogative," will be released Nov. 9.
Etheridge recovering ...
Melissa Etheridge is at home in California recovering from two operations to treat breast cancer.
Etheridge, 43, said on her Web site that a tumor and lymph nodes were removed, and that she'll have chemotherapy next. She canceled upcoming tour dates to undergo treatment.
"I still have both of my breasts, and whether I will keep them is a bridge I have to cross later," she said. "What an unexpected journey this is."
The singer is still planning to shoot a pilot for ABC in which she plays a gay music teacher.
Arrested development ...
Marc Anthony credits a former beat cop in East Harlem with keeping him on the path to stardom.
Speaking at an annual Hispanic heritage celebration this week in the New York Police Department, the salsa star and native New Yorker recalled how the officer, Kevin Lowry, made sure he went to school each day.
Anthony said he owes thanks to Lowry "for keeping me on the straight and narrow."
Now retired, Lowry remembered wanting to keep Anthony and other children away from "the knuckleheads" in the drug-infested neighborhood.
"I was just doing a policeman's job," Lowry, who was not at the ceremony, said when reached by phone.
Life of O'Reilly ...
The woman who has accused Fox News host Bill O'Reilly of sexual harassment says she has been locked out of her office by her bosses, who are considering ways of firing her.
Andrea Mackris has not been back to her New York Fox office since last Wednesday, when she filed the suit, which claims O'Reilly regaled her with unwanted tales of his sexual exploits.
She tells the New York Daily News that she wants her life and her career back: "I love being a journalist. I never expected my life to take this acute left turn."
Meanwhile, a Fox rep tells the Daily News that the network has asked a judge to clear the way for Mackris' termination.
Mackris' suit came hours after O'Reilly sued her and her lawyer for extortion, charging that they are trying to get $60 million in hush money from him. He says they threatened to file a harassment suit if he did not agree to a financial settlement.
Underground connection ...
Natalie Portman better brush up on her '60s counterculture.
We hear the 23-year-old "Star Wars" beauty has been hanging around with Chesa Boudin -- Rhodes scholar, Yale graduate and the son of notorious Weather Underground members Kathy Boudin and David Gilbert.
Portman -- who has been linked in the past to fellow Harvard student Jamie Waters and actors Lukas Haas, Gael Garcia Bernal and Zach Braff -- should have an interesting time meeting the parents, who were both imprisoned for murder after the famous Brinks robbery in Nyack, L.I., in 1981. While mom Kathy was granted parole last year, daddy David is still serving time.
