Leaving a football game at the two-minute warning when your team is losing is not a problem. Leaving a movie theater while the credits are rolling is no big deal. But leaving a theater like Shea's while the cast is taking its curtain call is downright rude.
I recently attended a performance of "The King and I." At final curtain, way too many people just turned their backs and left while the cast members were taking their bows. Unbelievable! These people just spent the past three hours performing their hearts out for us, yet so many could not take two minutes out of their lives to applaud. Their mad dash to get to their cars, when normally there is no real traffic problem getting out of downtown, was an embarrassment. It's no wonder we have an image problem when people have no manners.
