EX-JUDGE GETS PROBATION IN CHILD PORN CASE

A former Family Court judge has been sentenced to six years' probation for possessing child pornography.

Paul Miles, 80, retired in 1980 after 12 years in the judicial post. He continued to serve as a hearing judge for the 8th Judicial District of Western New York.

After his arrest in July, when several images were found in a trash bin, Miles said depression over his wife's death had led him to experiment on the Internet.

He was charged with 14 felony counts of possessing child pornography but was allowed to plead to a single misdemeanor count of attempted possession of a sexual performance by a child. As part of the plea agreement approved Monday, he must register as a sex offender.
