BUDGET DRAWS NO COMMENT FROM PUBLIC

Mayor Richard Frey's proposed 2005 budget of $18,715,712 was the subject of a public hearing Tuesday night before the Dunkirk Common Council, but no residents commented.

The plan is the same as the current year's, with the anticipated tax rate remaining at $15.88 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. The amount to be raised by taxes is $4,428,298.

Frey praised the spending plan, noting the city's budget 10 years ago was $3 million to $4 million more than the current plan. "The real credit for this budget goes to the Council and department heads for their cooperation," he noted. "
