SCHOOL DISTRICT RECEIVES MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
MIDDLEPORT -- The Royalton-Hartland School District has received about $5,000 worth of musical instruments this month through a Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation grant.
District officials said the grant, among other items, has provided the elementary instrumental music department at Gasport and Middleport schools two new cellos, a French horn, bells and a refurbished oboe.
Music teachers Michael Robertson and Paul Monaco applied for the grant last year and were notified they were awarded it during the summer. They said the new instruments will give them the opportunity to offer instrumental music education to more students.
The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, named for the 1996 movie starring Richard Dreyfus, supports music education through the donation and repair of musical instruments to underserved schools, community music programs and individual students nationwide, Monaco said.
