David Rolls Sr., of Buffalo, a retired information-management system director, died Oct. 5 in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, after a long illness. He was 64.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Rolls graduated from Bishop Timon High School and Canisius College. He worked as an information-management system chief for 23 years at the Veterans Administration in Long Beach, Calif., until his retirement in 1998.
He returned to Buffalo in 1999 to take care of his father, Edward O., who died in 2002.
During the last five years, he worked for the state Department of Environmental Conservation in Basom, setting up databases. He also volunteered with Catholic Charities of Buffalo and the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens, setting up databases there as well.
A sailor, he was a longtime member of the Hawaii Yacht Club.
Survivors include a son, David Jr. of Fredericksburg, Va.; two daughters, Lisa Stewart of Oklahoma City and Lindsey of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Suzanne Mellenger of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be scheduled in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 450 Abbott Road.
