David E. Sage, a retired railroad engineer and Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, died unexpectedly Thursday in Wyoming County Community Hospital. He was 65.
Born in Stafford, he was raised in Batavia and for 23 years lived in Connecticut, where he worked for the Metro North Commuter Rail Service as an engineer, making trips from Connecticut to New York City. He served in the Marine Corps and rose to the rank of staff sergeant.
Mr. Sage worked 33 years for several railroads and returned too Warsaw in August after retiring.
He was a member of Rock Glen Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans.
He enjoyed collecting Lionel trains and breeding and raising Shih Tzu puppies. He enjoyed his own dogs, Teddy Bear, Chouchie, Slipper and Gizmo.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, the former Donna Phetterplace, and a brother, Roland of Le Roy.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Weeks Funeral Home, 123 N. Main St. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Silver Springs.
