USED BOOK SALE: The Friends of Newstead Public Library will hold its annual fall used book sale Wednesday through Saturday in the meeting room of the library at 33 Main St., Akron. The sale, which will feature books, tapes, movies, puzzles and related items, begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday with a members-only presale. The sale will be open to the public from 10 to 5 p.m. Friday nd from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. A bag sale will begin at noon Saturday, with selected books at half-price.

OBESITY FORUM -- A public forum on preventing childhood obesity is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Orleans-Niagara Board of Cooperative Educational Services Conference and Training Center, 4124 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn.

Dinner will be provided by Subway. Advance registration is advised by calling 438-4037.

WORKSHOPS: EPIC Literacy Workshop Series for parents of young children; 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays beginning this week through Nov. 10, West Seneca Youth Bureau at the Charles Burchfield Nature & Art Center, 2001 Union Road. To register, call 558-3319.
