Lackawanna police disrupted a well-planned marijuana operation on Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. property Friday morning, confiscating 40 marijuana plants that stood between 3 and 4 feet high.
Acting on a tip, Lackawanna Detectives Paul Sojda, Robert Friend and Daniel Cardi found the plants growing on the utility's property off Abbott Road.
"They were planted in peat moss bags, and the bags were painted green, so they couldn't be spotted from the air," said Capt. Ronald Miller, chief of detectives. "The individual cultivating the marijuana trimmed the trees in the area to allow more sunlight to reach the plants."
Police have no suspects.
