A Dodge Street man accused of stealing a car at gunpoint at Elmwood and West Delavan avenues early Friday was apprehended later following a high-speed chase on the city's East Side.
The thief stole the 1998 Buick Regal after confronting the driver in a restaurant parking lot, taking a revolver from his pocket and pointing it at the driver at about 1:20 a.m., Northwest District police reported.
About a half hour later, Ferry-Fillmore District police on patrol spotted the stolen vehicle on Fillmore Avenue and attempted to pull it over. The officers gave chase, and the stolen car eluded police on several streets, before running another vehicle off the road at Northampton Street and Fillmore Avenue, police said.
The chase ended when the vehicle went over a curb and onto a lawn on Peace Street.
Ferry-Fillmore Officers Anthony Szymkowiak and Chad Maloney charged Todd A. Walker, 28, with first-degree robbery, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a loaded firearm, unauthorized use of a vehicle and several other charges.
