MARGARET G. HOFMEISTER, LONGTIME SAILOR
JUNE 3, 1913 -- JULY 27, 2004

Margaret G. Hofmeister of Amherst, a past skipper of the Women's Association of the Buffalo Power Squadron, died Tuesday in the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Cheektowaga. She was 91.

She and her husband were members of the Buffalo Yacht Club for 54 years, and he was a past commodore.

Born Margaret Gore in Buffalo, she was a graduate of South Park High School.

During the 1930s, Mrs. Hofmeister operated Peg Gore's School of Dance in South Buffalo.

She moved to Florida in 1975 with her husband, Fred L., who had retired as manager of the layout department of The Buffalo News. They returned in 2001.

Mrs. Hofmeister also was a past president of the Coterie Club.

Survivors in addition to her husband of 70 years include a son, James E. of Buffalo; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held.
