Elsie M. Emerson, a homemaker, died unexpectedly Sunday in Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland, Fla. She was 83.

She was born Elsie Hirsch in Lancaster and graduated from Lancaster Central High School. She moved to South Buffalo around 1950 and remained there until moving to Barefoot Bay, Fla., in 1982.

She and her husband, Gene, were Buffalo News carriers as children. Her husband later worked at the News for a few years as a maintenance superintendent.

Mrs. Emerson was a member of Sebastian United Methodist Church, Sebastian, Fla., and was active in its thrift shop. She was a former member of Woodside United Methodist Church in Buffalo.

In addition to her husband of 63 years, she is survived by a daughter, Diane Liddell of Elma; a sister, Thelma Atkinson of Lancaster; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Sebastian United Methodist Church, Sebastian, Fla.
