Services for Ella W. Johnson, a longtime member of Mount Olive Baptist Church who sang in several choruses, were held Saturday in Mount Olive Baptist Church, 66 Wasson Ave., Lackawanna. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery, Town of Hamburg. Mrs. Johnson, 83, of Buffalo, died July 13 in Erie County Medical Center after a long illness.
She was born and educated in Hanover, Va., and moved to Buffalo in 1946.
She served as an usher for more than 71 years at Mount Olive Baptist Church. Until her death, she was the chairwoman of the sick committee of the Senior Usher Board.
She was a member of the Sunshine Household of Ruth 6233 for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Johnson was president of the Viola Starling Ushers Chorus for more than 25 years. She also was a member of the John L. Everett State Chorus and Henry Ballard National Choir for many years.
She received many awards and citations for involvement in community and church organizations.
Survivors include two daughters, Dora Wilson and Gloria Fraizer, both of Buffalo; two sons, William Jefferson and James Jones, both of Buffalo; a brother, Luther Washington Sr. of Hanover; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
