A shoplifting suspect who fought with employees of the Family Dollar store on Niagara Falls Boulevard was captured Friday after being tackled, police said.

Melvin B. Dixon Jr., 39, of Buffalo, was charged with third-degree robbery, petit larceny and criminal impersonation.

Police said Dixon attempted to steal items valued at $167, including $123 in batteries, from the Family Dollar store just after 3:30 p.m. After striking an employee, he fled from the store but was pursued across Military Road, where two employees from a Goodyear Tire store tackled him, police said.
