Officers from three police agencies responded Saturday when a prisoner escaped while being treated in Lockport Memorial Hospital. The man, a burglary suspect, was apprehended a short time later.

Matthew Koehler, 28, was under guard at the hospital when he was somehow able to slip away and run from the building, Niagara County sheriff's deputies said.

Members of the City of Lockport police and State Police assisted in a search of the area, and Koehler was apprehended a short time later on the street. He was taken to the Niagara County Jail, where additional charges will be filed pertaining to the escape attempt.
