Dorothy Cristina, a homemaker who enjoyed traveling, died Saturday in St. Joseph Hospital, Cheektowaga, after a long illness. She was 76.
Born Dorothy Vande Velde in Dunkirk, she graduated from Dunkirk High School and Bryant & Stratton Business Institute. A Lancaster resident since 1963, she worked briefly in the accounting department of Behringer's Jewelry Store and for the Dunkirk Radiator payroll department before she married her husband of 48 years, Joseph Jr.
A member of Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church in Lancaster, Mrs. Cristina enjoyed reading to her children and grandchildren and traveling, including trips to Germany and Florida.
In addition to her husband, survivors include five daughters, Bethann Goldsmith, Karen Sanner and Linda Witt, all of Lancaster, and Judith Andrews and Mary Lynn Cody, both of Rochester; a son, Joseph III of Depew; a sister, Leola Coniglio of Fredonia; and 15 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 158 Laverack Ave., Lancaster. Burial will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Lancaster.
