SISTER MARIA KOZNOWSKI, TEACHER, PRINCIPAL

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Maria Koznowski will be offered at 9 a.m. today in Immaculate Conception Convent Chapel, 5286 South Park Ave., Hamburg. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga.

Sister Maria died Thursday in Mother Colette Hilbert Health Center. She was 92.

Born in Poland, Sister Maria moved to the United States as a child. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Our Lady of the Elms College in Massachusetts and a master's degree from Fairfield University in Connecticut.

Sister Maria professed her final vows in 1934. For 58 years, she ministered as a teacher at several locations, including St. Joseph in North Tonawanda and Holy Innocents Day Care Center in Buffalo. She was principal at St. Hyacinth in Auburn.

Sister Maria retired to Immaculate Conception Convent in 1991 and had been at the health center since 2000.

Survivors include a sister, Sheila Mavilio of Florida.
