A 20-year-old Sanborn man was killed late Thursday night when he was trapped in his burning vehicle, which had been struck head-on by a vehicle whose driver was charged with DWI, Niagara County sheriff's deputies said.
Stephen W. Siuta, 20, of Lockport Road, was pronounced dead at the scene on Cambria-Lockport Townline Road following the crash, which occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m.
The other driver, Thomas J. Jeffree, 48, of Wilson, was charged with driving while intoxicated, and failure to keep right after deputies said they determined that his vehicle crossed the center line and struck the Siuta vehicle head-on. Other charges are pending.
Jeffree was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition Friday with a fractured thigh bone, arm fractures and lacerations, authorities said.
Deputies said they responded to a 911 call at 10:28 p.m., found Siuta's vehicle engulfed in flames with him trapped inside and tried unsuccessfully to extinguish the fire. The Cambria Fire Company then arrived and put it out.
