TOWN HIRES NEW OFFICERS TO REPLACE TWO RETIREES

Two new Cheektowaga police officers will join the Erie County Central Police Services Training Academy on Aug. 2.

Neil C. Held, 29, who has been a public safety officer at Canisius College and a sheriff's deputy in the Holding Center, was a military police team leader in Iraq for a year. Joseph P. Carbone, 35, was a medical lab technician and was serving as a security officer at Erie County Medical Center.

The Town Board hired the officers this week after the recent retirements of Officers Gary Gawron and Dan Smith.
