James L. Bailey, a retired General Motors Corp. employee, died unexpectedly Sunday in his Stone Mountain, Ga., home. He was 63.
Born in Charlotte, N.C., Mr. Bailey moved to Buffalo as a child and was educated in Buffalo Public Schools.
He joined the Air Force in 1957 and was honorably discharged on June 5, 1964. He worked at GM's Powertrain Plant in the Town of Tonawanda for 30 years before transferring in 1996 to the company's Doraville assembly plant in Georgia to be near his children. He retired in 1998.
Mr. Bailey, affectionately called JB, enjoyed bowling and was a member of many bowling leagues. He also liked boxing and spent most of his retirement with his grandchildren.
Survivors, all from Stone Mountain, are his wife of 37 years, the former Aslee Brown; a daughter, Zena Harris; two sons, James II and Christopher; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service was held today in Victory Baptist Church, Stone Mountain.
