COUNCIL OKS PURCHASE OF NEW POLICE K-9 CAR

The Police Department will have a new K-9 car to replace one that was wrecked in a February 2003 crash and shootout with a suspect who seriously wounded two officers before killing himself.

The Common Council this week approved the purchase of the four-door vehicle from Gambino Ford for $21,058. The former one was damaged beyond repair in a chase and shootout with Jason Kanalley Feb. 9, 2003, in a Town of Lockport mobile home park.

Detective Capt. Lawrence M. Eggert and Officer Steven D. Ritchie, the K-9 officer, were shot, but both have since returned to duty.
