THERE ONCE WAS A BEACH WHERE STATE WILL DUMP STONE

When I graduated from St. Francis High School in the early 1960s, there was a white sand beach between 30 and 40 feet wide from the Lake Erie breakwater to the lake, which stretched from Hoak's restaurant to the now defunct Foit's restaurant across Route 5 from the school.

Why wasn't the beach saved? The state and/or county could have donated broken concrete to create a reef, a cheap solution to save the beach!

Now, 17 tons of stone will be dumped as a road safety project and a sad ending to what could have been a beautiful part of the lake shore.
