A Mass of Christian Burial for John "Jonesy" Capriotto will be offered at 9 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3148 Abbott Road, Orchard Park. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Hamburg.
Mr. Capriotto, a businessman, longtime volunteer firefighter and former chairman of the Orchard Park Board of Fire Commissioners, died Tuesday in Mercy Hospital after a long illness. He was 76.
A Lackawanna native, he was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He retired in 1995 from Capriotto & Sons Auto Parts, which he owned with his late brother, Carmelo.
Mr. Capriotto was associated with Windom Fire Company for nearly 40 years. He was a junior member from 1946 to 1949 and rejoined in 1964. He was on the Board of Fire Commissioners for 35 years, including 20 as chairman. Upon leaving the post because of ill health in 2002, he was honored at a reception by volunteers of the Orchard Park Fire District.
He was a past member of the Erie County Fire Advisory Board, Orchard Park Fire Advisory Committee, Erie County Fire Police and Erie County Hazardous Materials Team and for two years was president of the Blasdell Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, the former Anna Pietrantonio; three daughters, Joan Lindy of Hamburg and Linda Shoemaker and Kate Truslow, both of West Seneca; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
