Douglas A. Blanchard Sr., a retired employee of the state Thruway Authority, died Sunday in his West Seneca home after a lengthy illness. He was 67.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Blanchard retired in 1996 from the Thruway Authority, for which he had worked as a driver. He formerly worked for Mushroom Transportation, Bethlehem Steel Corp., Higgins Erectors & Haulers and in the federal Comprehensive Employment and Training Act program.
He enjoyed roller skating and dancing and was a member of the West Seneca Democratic Committee.
Survivors include his wife, the former Marian Marshall of West Seneca; two daughters, Leah Hayes of Buffalo and Bunny Pirrone of Cheektowaga; a son, Douglas Jr. of West Seneca; two brothers, Rodney of Buffalo and Charles of Marilla; and six grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 2315 Seneca St., after prayers at 8:45 in Buszka Funeral Home, 2005 Clinton St. Burial will be in St. Matthews Cemetery, West Seneca.
