Alfred "Doc" Massotti, a former health and physical education teacher in the Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District, died Sunday in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 68.
The Niagara Falls native was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School. He earned a master's degree in education from the University at Buffalo.
Mr. Massotti worked for the Niagara-Wheatfield district for 32 years, mostly at the high school, where he also was varsity basketball coach from 1969 to 1988.
He also worked for the state as a seasonal park patrolman and ranger for 35 years. He also assisted Niagara Falls High School varsity basketball coach Dan Bazzani until the completion of the 2003-04 season.
Mr. Massotti enjoyed reading and sports.
Survivors include three daughters, Ann of Kauai, Hawaii, Donna Scourboutakos of Toronto and Rhonda of Henderson, Nev.; a son, Joseph S. of Connecticut; six grandchildren; and a dear friend, Helen Webb of Niagara Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday in Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1055 N. Military Road, after prayers at 9:15 in M.J. Colucci & Son Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Town of Niagara. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
