Teresa D. Catanzaro, a former supermarket employee, died Saturday in Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness. She was 84.
Born Teresa Speranza in Naples, Italy, she was referred to affectionately as "Ma." She came to Buffalo at about age 2, and lived here until 1985. She later lived in Rochester and West Seneca.
Mrs. Catanzaro worked in the mail department at A&P in Buffalo for 20 years. Later, she worked in the mail room and as a claims processor at Aetna Insurance in Rochester before retiring in 1986.
She was a member of St. Martin's Senior Citizens and St. Martin's Altar & Rosary Society in South Buffalo. She enjoyed sharing her cooking with others.
Her husband, Michael J., died in 1953.
Survivors include three daughters, Katherine Coffey and Susan McMahon, both of Orchard Park, and Joan Lilley of West Seneca; a sister, Josephine Draper of Kenmore; a brother, Anthony Speranza of Akron; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 1140 Abbott Road. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
