ON THIS DAY -- In 1881, Sioux Indian leader Sitting Bull, a fugitive since the Battle of the Little Big Horn, surrendered to federal troops. (He would later visit Buffalo as a performer in Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show.) . . . In 1944, an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler with a bomb failed. An explosion in his Rastenburg headquarters only wounded the Nazi leader. . . . In 1969, Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin became the first men to walk on the moon. . . .

AUTHENTIC Lebanese cuisine and white coffee made with rosewater/orange blossom are among the many delights and goodies awaiting visitors to the Lebanese Festival July 30-Aug. 1 at St. John Maron Church, 2040 Wehrle Drive, Amherst. Entertainment will include continuous Arabic music by "The Stars of the East" band and performances by the St. John Maron Lebanese Festival Dance Troupe.
