A Grand Island woman moving to Niagara Falls discovered Friday that several items stolen from her new apartment on Tronolone Avenue had ended up in a neighbor's apartment.
The woman told police she had not been to the apartment since Monday, and when she returned at 5:30 p.m. Friday, she discovered her refrigerator, kitchen table and children's toys missing. Police said she discovered the missing items in the apartment of neighbor who previously offered to buy her refrigerator, and summoned police.
Detective Celestine Booze said a 6-year-old boy, who was alone in the apartment, told police his father had stolen the furnishings. The officer also noted the apartment was "filthy" and littered with empty food bags and bugs.
Booze contacted Child Protective Services after the boy's parents could not be found.
