MIGRANT WORKER CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

A man identified by police as a migrant worker from Mexico was accused of attempted murder Saturday morning after another migrant worker was stabbed repeatedly and clubbed over the head with a lead pipe in North Collins.

Erie County sheriff's deputies arrested Jose Carranza, 35, after he allegedly attacked Alfonzo Sanchez, 39, during a quarrel in a field off Route 62.

Senior Detective James F. Hatch said Sanchez was taken to Erie County Medical Center, where he was in fair condition. Carranza was also charged with weapons possession and burglary.
