SECOND GRANT AWARDED FOR HISTORY PROGRAM

The Jamestown School District has received its second three-year Department of Education grant in the amount of $936,684.

The money is for the project "Teachers Discovering History as Historians" and will run from the summer of 2005 through 2007.

The project targets professional development of American history teachers in fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth, 11th and 12th grades over three consecutive summers. The district was awarded the first three-year grant in 2002 for the amount of $741,804.

The current grant is in its second year, with 75 American history teachers from every district in Chautauqua County participating.
