Helen Courtine, a longtime supermarket employee, died Wednesday (July 14, 2004) in the home of her daughter and son-in-law in San Diego after a long illness. She was 86.
Born Helen O'Pecko in Vandling, Pa., she moved in 1945 to Buffalo, where she lived 40 years before moving to San Diego in 1995 after the death of her husband, Joseph.
Mrs. Courtine worked as a meat wrapper for Loblaws supermarkets in Buffalo for 26 years. She was a life member of U-Crest Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Poway (Calif.) Senior Center's Needle Crafters.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Flora of San Diego; a brother, William O'Pecko of Midwest City, Okla.; a sister, Cecelia O'Pecko of Forest City, Pa.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in Infant of Prague Catholic Church, 921 Cleveland Drive, Cheektowaga. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton.
