Lake Erie beaches in Erie County are closed until further notice, officials announced Friday.
The closures are the result of recent heavy rains, officials said.
Meanwhile, a beach popular with Buffalo-area residents summering in Canada was reopened Friday, a week after being closed because of high E. coli bacteria levels in the water.
Regional health officials lifted the swimming ban at Waverly Beach, on Lake Erie a few miles west of the Peace Bridge, after weekly tests yielded safe readings.
A Town of Fort Erie resident who swam at Waverly on Wednesday, unaware of the closing, complained that a single paper warning sign posted in the parking lot had been rendered unreadable by heavy rains and wind.
