Services will scheduled for today for Santa Ventry, whose work at a family-owned pizzeria earned her the nickname "Grandma Pizza" from her grandchildren.
Mrs. Ventry died Wednesday (May 28, 2003) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a short illness. She was 85.
She was born Santa Bruno in Niagara Falls, where she went to school.
She worked for many years at Ventry's Pizza at Niagara and 24th streets.
Mrs. Ventry also volunteered for 25 years in the foster grandparents program operated by the Health Association of Niagara County.
Her husband of 38 years, Anthony, died in 1974.
Survivors include five sons, Richard A. of Niagara Falls, Robert L. and Frank of Lewiston, Ronald J. of North Tonawanda and Anthony Jr. of Atlanta; three daughters, Maria McConnaghy of Niagara Falls, Dorothy Beebe of Lewiston and Rosalie Vanderhider of the Town of Tonawanda; a brother, Dominic Bruno of Lake City, Fla.; more than 50 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at noon today in St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church, 3840 Macklem Ave., following prayers at 11:15 in M.J. Colucci & Son Funeral Chapel, 468 19th St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
