GOP OKs councilman for supervisor

BATAVIA -- An incumbent councilman will be the endorsed Republican candidate for town supervisor in the November election.

The town's GOP committee announced its selections Friday. Douglas R. Strang was elected to the Town Board in 1999. He will likely face Supervisor June C. Vukman, who won her eighth term two years ago after winning a Republican primary. She also had the backing of the Democratic and Conservative parties. Vukman has not said whether she will run again.

Endorsed for Council seats are real estate agent John Gerace and local broadcaster Chad Zambito. They seek to fill the seats of Strang and Alfred E. Lang, who is not seeking another term.

Stephen M. Hawley, chairman, said three incumbents were also endorsed: Teresa M. Morasco for town clerk, Rodney W. Cook for highway superintendent and David Wiater for town justice.

Hawley said the committee is also supporting Genesee County Legislator Mary Pat Hancock for another two-year term. She represents the towns of Batavia and Stafford, and currently is chairwoman of the Legislature, whose nine incumbents are seeking re-election.
