Muriel A. "Kitty" Zilliox, 75, a former church secretary and waitress, died Tuesday (May 27, 2003) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston.
A native of the Town of Tonawanda and a longtime resident of Grand Island, she worked for many years at Del & Herb's Restaurant at Love Road and Broadway on the island, where she enjoyed serving and talking with regular customers. She later left to become one of the first employees of the Grand Island Holiday Inn.
In 1983, she joined New Covenant Tabernacle Church in the Town of Tonawanda, where she was executive assistant to the Rev. Paul Schenck for 11 years. She often traveled with a church group, most memorably to Israel.
Mrs. Zilliox was a former Democratic committeewoman and Kenmore Mercy Hospital volunteer. She also helped people with their personal finances.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda M. Modglin of Getzville and Karen A. Zilliox-Wiesler of Weston, Mass.; three sons, Mark J. of Grand Island, Gregory R. of Lewiston and Kevin R. of Willis, Texas; and four sisters, Cleo Cathcart of the Town of Tonawanda, Carol Stempien of Winthrup, Mass., Rosemary Cathcart of Nashville, Tenn., and Robin Cathcart of Killeen, Texas.
A service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in New Covenant Tabernacle Church, 345 McConkey Drive, Town of Tonawanda. Burial will be in Whitehaven Cemetery, Grand Island.
