Francisco Torres "Chino" Ruiz, 71, a native of Puerto Rico, died Tuesday (May 27, 2003) in Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, after a brief illness.
Ruiz was born in Patillas, Puerto Rico. He moved to Medina from Puerto Rico in the early 1960s and met his wife-to-be, Iris Lozado. They married in 1963.
He was employed as a production worker by H.J. Heinz Co., Fisher-Price and then Abex, until the company closed its Medina factory. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Julia Montalbo of Puerto Rico, Marie Molina of Lockport, Frances Hann of Shelby and Amelia Torres of Medina; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Church, 211 Eagle St., after prayers in Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
