The Zoar Valley Paddling Club has received Gowanda Village Board backing for its annual Dice Fun Regatta.
Board members voted Tuesday to approve the club request for the ninth year in a row.
Cheri Giancarlo, event coordinator, said the regatta would draw crowds of paddlers to the area and spotlight water safety.
Proceeds, she added, will benefit Tri-County Hospital in Gowanda. The emergency team at the hospital plays a key role in the club's mission to promote watercraft safety and provide aid in boating-related emergencies.
The festival is scheduled for June 7 when only people-powered boats will leave Gowanda and head seven miles toward Versailles.
"There will be five stops along the route, and at each stop you can roll the dice for prizes," Giancarlo said.
The board also:
Agreed to apply for $87,900 from the Justice Department for a school resource officer for Gowanda Middle School.
Accepted the resignation of Edward Austin, who is leaving the Village Board for personal reasons. Dale Decarlo was appointed to fill the seat until village elections next March.
Discussed a new Heritage Harvest Festival, to be held Sept. 21 in conjunction with the annual home tour.
The event would benefit the Hollywood Theater.
