JOSEPH J. MCCARTHY, UNION ELECTRICIAN

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph J. McCarthy, 66, of West Seneca, a retired lineman and working foreman for Ferguson Electric Construction Co., will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2950 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.

McCarthy, who was born in Buffalo, died last Thursday (May 22, 2003) in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after a brief illness.

He was a graduate of Bishop Timon High School and served in the Army Chemical Corps.

McCarthy worked out of Local 1249, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, for more than 40 years, mostly with Ferguson Electric, until his retirement in 1994. Some of his construction projects included the installation of the electric lines for Metro Rail on Main Street and work at Love Canal in Niagara Falls.

He enjoyed swimming.

His wife of 32 years, Sara Ann "Sally," died in 1993.

Survivors include three daughters, Cynthia L. Marinides of East Amherst and Megan E. Bean and Caitlin Lafferty, both of West Seneca; two sons, Mark J. of Atlanta and Joseph J. of Ballston Spa; a sister, Margaret Bauer of Buffalo; two brothers, Timothy J. of Hamburg and John J. of West Seneca; and 15 grandchildren.
