After seeing the movie "Bruce Almighty," County Executive Joel Giambra proclaims, "This is going to be a tremendous lift for the city." I ask the question, how?
Is it going to solve the city school system that is in shambles? Is it going to stop people that are leaving Buffalo at the rate of over 3,000 a year in the last 20 years? Is it going to create jobs for an economy that is one of the worst in the country? Will it encourage businesses to stay instead of moving into the suburbs or out of the state?
Doesn't he read the newspaper and realize that the city is in a state of chaos? Does he think this movie will be a "tremendous lift" for the thousands of jobless people mired in poverty and trying to make ends meet? I doubt it very much! It might give some people a "lift" for a day or two, but after that, back to reality. I want Giambra to answer these questions. How? It's just a movie.
