Henry R. "Gabby" Sittniewski, a retired truck driver, died Sunday (May 25, 2003) in Sheehan Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was 78.
Born in Buffalo, he was employed by the Pacific Interstate Express trucking company for 30 years before retiring in 1978.
Sittniewski served in the Army Air Forces as a corporal and in the Merchant Marine for three years as a cook.
He also was a longtime member of Teamsters Local 375 and is described as a "boxing fanatic" by family members. His favorite boxers were Mike Tyson and George Foreman.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Cecelia Brogcinski; three daughters, Barbara Bistrisky of Lackawanna, Cheryl Laberta of Buffalo and Beverly of Lackawanna; three sons, Gary, David and Michael, all of Lackawanna; two sisters, Barbara Gerevics of Largo, Fla., and Leona Rinaldo of Buffalo; a brother, Casey of Williamsville; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday in Peter K. Leslie Funeral Home, 580 South Park Ave. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.
