Kentucky Derby runner-up Empire Maker has been entered in the $100,000 Jersey Derby at Monmouth Park on Monday. It is expected to be the colt's final tuneup for the June 7 Belmont Stakes against Triple Crown contender Funny Cide.
"I need to get a good work or race into him before the Belmont," trainer Bobby Frankel said Saturday. "I decided this was a good spot for that." Frankel could scratch the colt if the rain-soaked track at Belmont becomes good enough for him to train over.
Empire Maker skipped the Preakness, which Funny Cide won easily.
