The Amherst Town Board will hold a special work session at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Engineering Department building, 1100 N. Forest Road, to discuss the appointment of a new highway superintendent. The board also will discuss spending up to $4,800 to provide assistance for lowering the height of a telecommunications tower outside the Engineering Department building. The board also will take up general budget and financial matters.

The Sweet Home Central School Board will hold a hearing on the district's proposed $50 million spending plan for the 2003-04 school year at 7 p.m. Tuesday in cafeteria A of the high school, 1901 Sweet Home Road. District residents will have an opportunity to ask board members about the adopted budget.
The Williamsville Central School Board will hold its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the district office board room, 105 Casey Road, Amherst.


The East Aurora Village Board will meet in a work session at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the public works garages off Pine Street Extension.

A push to crackdown on illegal dumping will be discussed at 10 a.m. Wednesday when the Common Council's Finance Committee holds a special meeting in Room 1417 of City Hall.

Some lawmakers have long complained about flagrant violators who turn empty lots and other properties into small mountains of debris. Officials are examining a number of strategies, including stiffer penalties. Some believe the current $1,500 penalty is doing little to deter illegal dumpers.

"For some of these people, $1,500 is a drop in the bucket," said South Council Member Mary M. Martino. "They could care less."

Eden Central School District will hold its budget hearing at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium of the Eden Junior-Senior High School, 3150 Schoolview Road.


The Elma Town Board will hold a work session at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Town Hall, 1910 Bowen Road.


Hamburg Village Board will hold its year end meeting at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in Village Hall, 100 Main St.


Lackawanna City Council has scheduled a work session for 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Council Chambers of City Hall to continue its review of the Municipal Code, Council President Norman L. Polanski Jr. has announced.

Orchard Park

Orchard Park Town Board will discuss funding requests from youth groups and will revisit the town's proposed dog control law when it meets Wednesday night in a work session in the Municipal Center, 4295 South Buffalo St.

The meeting will start with an executive session at 5:30 p.m., and the board is scheduled to attend a presentation by the Partners for a Livable Western New York in the basement meeting room. Animal Control Officer Dennis Buczkowski is scheduled to meet with the board at 8 p.m.

City of Tonawanda

The School Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed $26.2 million budget and a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the administration building, 202 Broad St.

West Seneca

West Seneca School Board will hold a budget presentation at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Administration Building, 1397 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca, followed at 7:45 p.m. by a regular school board meeting.
