Vela Mae Brown, a former youth counselor, died Tuesday (May 20, 2003) in Delaware Heights Rehabilitation Center after a short illness. She was 80.
Born Vela Mae Woods in Brewton, Ala., Mrs. Brown lived in Pensacola, Fla., and was employed as a counselor in the Pensacola Juvenile Detention Center for 15 years before relocating to Buffalo in 1996.
Her hobbies included traveling and attending church.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, the Rev. Lewis of Buffalo; a daughter, Betty Carpenter of Buffalo; a son, Richard Card II of Pensacola; 10 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Nazareth Baptist Church, 475 Berkshire Ave. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery, West Seneca.
