Florence A. Johnston, 94, of Cuba, a former drugstore co-owner, died Thursday (May 22, 2003) in the Waters of Allegany nursing home in Allegany after a short illness.
Born Florence Sheridan in Buffalo, she married Russell W. Johnston in 1936. He died in 1963.
She was employed in Buffalo for several years in the offices of the American Brass Co. After her husband died, she became co-owner and worked in Hunter and Johnston Pharmacy in Cuba. She later worked in the offices of Whelan Wholesale in Olean.
Mrs. Johnston had been a member of the Cuba Travelers Club and enjoyed numerous vacations throughout Mexico, Greece, Canada, the United States, including Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin Islands. She also had been a member of the Cuba Home Bureau, Cuba Historical Association, Order of Eastern Star, Bartlett Country Club and Bolivar Country Club, and participated in various community volunteer charities. She had a love for animals. She also enjoyed flower gardening, painting and reading.
Mrs. Johnston is survived by her son, Donald, of Dallas, and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in McIntosh Funeral Home, 24 Genesee Parkway, Cuba. n
