SISTER MARY ANN SHEPHERD, TEACHER

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Mary Ann Shepherd will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 4975 Strickler Road, Clarence. Burial will be in the St. Joseph section of Forest Lawn.

Sister Shepherd, 71, died Wednesday (May 21, 2003) in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. She was also known as Sister Thomas Ann.

Born in Buffalo, she entered the order in 1950 and professed her vows in 1952. She earned a bachelor's degree in education at Medaille College and a master's in math education at Montclair State College.

She was executive treasurer at the Sisters of St. Joseph Administrative Center for nine years.

She taught elementary school at Nativity Parish in Buffalo and St. Joseph's in Fredonia, as well as Cardinal Mindszenty High School in Dunkirk and Mount St. Joseph Academy in Buffalo.

She retired in 1995 because of a stroke but continued to reach out to children at St. Mary of Sorrows Parish by providing holiday treats throughout the year and supported other ministries. She also participated in the foster grandparents program for elementary pupils.
