Ivano Toscano of Buffalo's Anchor Bar, 1047 Main St., was in New York City recently to accept the Coca-Cola America's Classic Award, presented each year by the James Beard Foundation to "four locally owned and operated regional restaurants that have withstood the test of time and are beloved in their communities." Atlantic Monthly senior editor Corby Kummer wrote the citation: "Few cities or restaurants are as closely associated with a dish as Anchor Bar is with Buffalo Chicken Wings. The origins may be slightly disputed (by the late John Young) but the famous birthplace thankfully remains intact."
Shonell Jonson, owner of Uncommon Grounds, is very excited about the new entryway mural in his homey coffeehouse that will be officially introduced at 7 tonight. Local artist Dalton Eason took more than a month to paint this scene that incorporates an impressive view of downtown Buffalo. He's inviting all Western New Yorkers to come take a look. Wine and food
Eat, drink and be merry. Two exciting wine and food dinners have been scheduled by local restaurants. A six-course dinner at Fiddle Heads, 62 Allen St., takes place at 7 p.m. Wednesday; reservations are required. Call 883-4166.
